Poetic Pathways

The initiative "Poetic Pathways" is an inspiring project that combines poetry with the exploration of public spaces, encouraging participants to interact with their environment through art while promoting a love for reading. In this way, poetry becomes accessible to a broader audience and highlights, in an original and functional manner, the collaborative and communicative relationship between art and entrepreneurship.

The idea of creating poetic pathways offers a unique opportunity for the cultivation of creativity and cultural sensitivity, while also fostering collaboration and communication among people. By incorporating poetry into daily life, this initiative can enhance the cultural identity of the area and provide new perspectives for artistic expression.

The project was inspired by Vasiliki Kateri and began to be organized in Kalamata by our ancestral figure, known as "mama" Kalliergon, with a central focus on poetry, concentrating on Messinian poets and all those who are or have been active in the region. Unfortunately, it was not completed due to the pandemic that broke out in March 2020.

The event was designed to take place over 42 days, scattered across the streets, neighborhoods, squares, and parks, as well as in the shops of the city, starting—symbolically—on March 21 (World Poetry Day) and lasting until May 3, 2020.

As mentioned earlier, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the activity remained unfinished. However, it continued to be implemented alternatively online, featuring recorded poetry with original musical accompaniment on YouTube. As part of this new form of action, a large 24-hour online tribute to the memory of the late poet, Giota Argiropoulou, was held on July 19, 2020. There was also a wonderful collaboration with the Kalamata Municipal Philharmonic and its conductor Kostas Nikolaou, titled "These lyrics...", which took place in the courtyard of Kalamata on August 4, 2020.

The "Poetic Pathways" look forward to the moment when we will all walk together on them again! Looking forward to seeing you this Fall in Kalamata!
