Poetic Pathways

A large-scale event entitled "Poetic Pathways" ("Poihtikoi Dromoi" in the Greek pronunciation of the rendering) is an innovative idea by Vasiliki Kateri. It started to be organized by our ancestor, or otherwise known as "mom" Kalliergon, focusing on the art of poetry, mainly emphasizing the Messinian poets, as well as all those who are or have been active in the region.

The event was designed to spread for 42 days, in the streets, neighborhoods, squares, parks, but also in the storefronts and interiors of the city's shops and businesses, starting – symbolically – on 21 March (World Poetry Day) and would last until 3 May 2020.

The main purpose of this action was to make poetry accessible to the general public and to highlight in an original and functional way the relationship of cooperation and communication between art and entrepreneurship. An important role would be played by the shops and businesses, which would host and highlight in their space the poems, under the proposals and guidance of Kalliergon.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic the event was left unfinished. But it continued to be implemented, alternatively, via the internet, with recorded poems with original soundtrack on YouTube. In this context, in the new form of the action, there was a large 24-hour online tribute to the late poet, Giota Argyropoulou, on 19 July 2020. There was also a wonderful collaboration with the Chamber Orchestra of the Municipal Philharmonic of Kalamata and the conductor of Kostas Nikoleas, entitled "These lyrics…". The event took place in the courtyard of the Kalamata Dance Hall on August 4, 2020.

The "Poetic Pathways" are waiting for the time when, all together, we will serge them again!
