Interactive and immersive cultural activities in Epirus

Participatory Cultural Activities in Epirus
September 2024 | #EUinmyRegion
In September 2024, KALLIERGON syn implemented a series of interactive cultural activities in Epirus, creating immersive experiences in significant archaeological sites, within the framework of the European initiative Europe in my Region (#EUinmyRegion).
The collaboration was carried out following an assignment by Myrtaly Congress, which had been commissioned by the Region of Epirus to design and implement the programme of activities.
Focusing on the connection between art, history and participation, the activities contributed to strengthening cultural tourism in Epirus, offering the public a meaningful experience of engaging with monuments that are being revitalised through restoration and enhancement projects.
Ancient Theatre of Nicopolis – Preveza
7 September 2024
An interactive treasure hunt, an immersive experience within an archaeological site inspired by the Battle of Actium, transported participants back to 31 BC, inviting them to assume roles and become part of the story.
Through clues, storytelling and discoveries, participants were led to a “treasure” that transcends its material meaning, highlighting values such as collectivity, memory and a deeper connection to culture.
The activity highlighted the Ancient Theatre of Nicopolis as a living place of experience, connecting its past with its present.
Small Theatre of Amvrakia – Arta
14 September 2024
At the site of the smallest surviving ancient theatre in Greece, participants of all ages took part in an interactive theatrical activity centred on the creation of the “smallest theatrical play.”
Through a short writing workshop and theatre-based play, participants became both creators and performers, presenting their own works in a lively, participatory environment.
The activity highlighted the power of theatrical expression as a means of learning, collaboration and creativity, while bringing forward the history and significance of the monument.
Castle of Ioannina
28 September 2024
An interactive walking route within the Castle of Ioannina was transformed into a treasure hunt, guiding participants on a journey into the era of Ali Pasha, as part of a contemporary approach to the cultural landscape and the visitors’ immersive experience.
Following a narrative route from one stop to another, participants explored the history of the site, its monuments and the figures that shaped it, through a game that combined knowledge and experience.
At the same time, the restoration and enhancement works within the castle were highlighted, as part of a contemporary approach to the cultural landscape.
