PAMVOTIS LAKE PROJECT
Unique experiences with active participants:
Back again in the spring, renewed and enriched!
Theatrical paths in the alleys of the castle. An experiential theatrical expression and narrative fiction in an outdoor, natural environment, integrated within the framework of Interactive Theater.
The activity is part of the broader framework of the Pamvotis Lake Project. Its goal is to revitalize and modernize the intangible cultural heritage of the Ioannina region, as well as to create a new cultural legacy for future generations.
Through theatrical journeys, live storytelling, and narrative fiction, the initiative activates public space by connecting memory, myth, and place in an immediate, participatory, and contemporary way.
This year's version of the "Pashas in Ioannina" activity is presented in a renewed form, with a significant addition: Kamishibai, the traditional Japanese "paper theater." It is a storytelling method that combines painted images and live narration, inviting the audience to a slower, more mindful, and collective way of experiencing the story.
Through paper theater, live storytelling, and subsequent discussion, spectators undergo a collective journey where memory, myth, and place come together.
Come and listen to what has to tell you the soldier of Durachan Pasha, who crossed the frozen lake with his army. Come and hear how the ropes were found at the castle gates and about the ghost of Emine and ow many secrets does the gatekeeper hide. Come and console the lady's maid of Kyra Frosyni who is monologuing, and so much more!
Enjoy, learn, share, play!
The activity is available only in Greek language.
The route followed, without a particular level of difficulty, includes stops at outdoor landmarks within the Castle City, as well as the lakeside area. It is not suitable for people with mobility issues. It is recommended to wear comfortable and slip-resistant shoes and carry with you a bottle of water.
It is suitable for all ages. Minors can attend only with the accompaniment of a guardian. Recently, the activity has been adapted for preschool groups and is titled "The Pashas in Ioannina and the Fairy Queen of the Castle".
The action, so far, is only available in the Greek language.
NOTE: The 5th season of the action begins in Spring 2026. Please make your group reservation in advance, at least 2 weeks prior.

The main focus of the initiative is to activate the relationship between residents and visitors with the place, to enhance the cultural awareness of all age groups, and to encourage further exploration of the city's museums and monuments. In this way, the initiative significantly contributes to the development of thematic and cultural tourism throughout the year. It is not a guided tour and does not replace historical or museum presentations. It is based on narrative fiction, inspired by historical events, myths, and legends of the area, and functions as an artistic tool for approaching memory and the place.
The texts of the activity are original and signed by Christina Tzialla, resulting from many years of research and in-depth exploration of the local myths, legends, and historical references of the area. Through storytelling, a new narrative "reality" is created, which does not simply replicate history but engages creatively with it.
Today, the phrase "pasha in Ioannina" conveys the meaning of a good life and carefree living, just as the pashas used to experience in Ioannina... and there were many of them throughout the centuries.
ΝΟΤΕ: The activity is under the auspices of institutional bodies, without this implying financial support. The overall operation of our non-profit organization is based on the support of partners and sponsors who believe in sustainable cultural creation. Become a fellow traveler with us.
